Honestly, fuck those neighbors. If it isn’t a business, they can all get in line to choke start a shotgun. They have $40K to burn on bullshit, go use it to actually help fix homes for families in need.

I guess it depends on the whole story. I grew up next to a drag racer. As a child I would have sleepless nights because the asshole would be up all night working and revving his cars. He was retired, he could have done it during the day. He was just an asshole.

Someone posted on this, but I’ll say the same thing as I did on theirs:

I mean, I get what they’re after, but their beef is with the county, it shouldn’t be with this guy. What it sounds like is happening is: he’s in furtherance of a hobby which is non-commercial in nature, so it’s not a violation of the as-of-right use he enjoys on the land. But, this hobby is being conducted in something that doesn’t meet the zoning code.

If that’s the case, that’s a legit gripe. I’m sorry. They are right, zoning and land use is there for a reason, and precedents do get set. What happens when someone puts up a 75 car garage and lets their friends store their collectibles there? It’s the same problem with respect to the land use, and commercial code, and building occupancy, and all of the things that matter within the zoning text... but the county can’t give out different resolutions for a 75 car garage and a 4 car workshop if they function the same and break the same part of the zoning resolution.

But in any case, the beef of the plaintiffs is with the county, it is not with the benefactor of lax enforcement. Here in New York, we have an avenue for that, and it’s called an Article 78 proceeding where taxpayers can basically sue the city/state for their inaction or improper decision under the law. But as-it-were, the defendant shouldn’t have had to spend a dollar on those issues until there’s an agency decision.

Couldn’t help noticing that those two women haven’t actually specified any particular thing this guy has done.

“He’s getting away with so much!”
“Getting away with what?”
“It’s against the law!”
“What law?”
“It’s against the law !!!”

I’m certainly no lawyer, but I don’t see the harm here. The guy has his car buddies over and they work on cars, I approve. Clearly if the harassment continues he ought to move to a more remote area where he can do as he pleases without busy bodies nagging him (or God forbid, a HOA). Also, those “ladies” need a makeover and a new wardrobe, they’re hideous.

The building was approved for construction and use as a garage by the county and is being used non commercially. The director of planning and zoning for the county has said that that type of building is approved for personal use as a garage or shed.

This is more about two bitter, lonely old crones that feel a need for a “cause” than this guy’s “hobby”.

They keep bitching about laws and codes. Have they inspected the premises? Are they qualified Inspectors? Contractors? No. Just two assholes with a lot of time on their hands.

It’s not like this guy has a bunch of derelict vehicles on his property either. He has a nice chunk of land and I bet you can’t even see his place from theirs.

Here’s what Google Earth shows.

These trolls need to get out more often.

I’ve seen both sides. On one neighbors can be complete assholes that have unreasonable expectations of silence, and on the other I had a neighbor renting out their house on Air BnB to college kids who would cram 20 people into the house, with 15 cars taking up the street.

I’ve also had a neighbor in a wheelchair, which due to his lack of mobility, and no job was practically nocturnal which would drive everyone nuts.

I imagine there could be much more to this story.
